Check Safety of Everyone Involved

So you just got in a car accident.  Regardless of what degree of severity the accident was these things outlined here today are important.  The first and most important of these things being the need to check safety.  When you collide with another car, it is jarring.  Make sure you check everything around you.  Ensure that no one is hurt or in need of medical attention.

Call the Police

When a car collision involves people or property that get damaged, it is important that you call the police to investigate.  In fact, it is illegal to not call the police in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  That means you should do it or risk your insurance company not paying damages.  When the police come, focus on telling them all of the facts and allow them to make judgements about fault.

Exchange Information

The next thing that you need to do is exchange information with the people involved in the accident.  This information is everything that you will need to file the reports.  At the bare minimum you should get their phone number, address, drivers license number, insurance number and the type of car they drive.

This is a perfect time to go ahead and check the surrounding areas for bystanders who saw something.  Make sure that you ask them what they saw.  You want to get information from them also (just not as much). For witnesses, you can simply ask them for their names and their phone number should you need to contact them.

File an Insurance Claim

Finally, you want to file an insurance claim that same day.  You want to make sure that you get the claim filed within the first 24 hours of the accident.  This is important otherwise your claim may be void if you wait too long.

Take it to US

Then it’s time to get your car repaired!  That is where we at American Auto Body and Collision really shine.  Take your car to us and receive fast and reliable service.  Our primary goal is to get you in and out of the shop as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible.  It’s important to be able to trust your vehicle and that it will take you from point A to point B.  Let us help you restore confidence in your car and its ability to drive you.
