Today we are talking about the steps that you should go through after getting into a motorcycle collision to get repairs to your bike.  It all starts with how you are supposed to document the accident and ends with how we here at American Auto Body and Collision will help you get back on the road.

We are a Tulsa based auto body and collision repair shop who can provide you with motorcycle collision repairs along with any other type of vehicle repairs you may need.  Your visit to American Auto Body and Collision starts with a phone call to 918-323-4909 where we will not only inspect your vehicle but will also help you with filing your insurance claim.

Our goal is to get you back on the road as fast as possible.  That starts with a repair quote and ends with you driving out of our shop happy. We start with a detailed inspection of your vehicle to assess the true extent of damages, then we help you file your insurance claim with claim assistance, and finally we get to work on your car or motorcycle.

What to do after an accident?

We realize that it isn’t everyday that you have a car accident. That’s why we are writing this article today.  We want to make it as easy as possible for you to handle everything that comes in the aftermath of a car accident.

Make sure you’re okay

The first thing you need to do before helping anyone else’s to make sure that you are okay. In the aftermath of a collision, you can definitely be high on adrenaline. In this time you may or may not feel the injuries you have. That’s why it’s very important to take it slow. Sometimes if you rush to move you can injure yourself even more. If you are hurt and you can’t move, try to flag down others to help you.

Check on Others

If you are okay, the next thing you should do is go check on others. Make sure that they don’t need any immediate assistance before you call 911. Depending upon your level of expertise in  the medical field, you may or may not be a very much use. Regardless, you need to make the effort 10 sure everyone is okay in the other vehicles.

Get to a Safe Location

Car accidents don’t always happen in the safest locations. In the aftermath of a car collision, you may be in danger simply by existing in the place that you are currently located. It’s important before you let any of your guards down that you get to a safe location. Find the side of a road or a parking lot or any other place where traffic is not free flowing.  It’s sad to say but many times a secondary car collision happens because people are watching the aftermath of the first one.

Call 911

The next thing you need to do is call the police. Wait for the police to arrive on the scene.  Make sure you refrain from discussing fault or liability while you are waiting for the police to arrive. It’s the responsibility of the insurance adjuster to make rulings on who is at fault and who is required to pay. The only thing that discussing these things with other participants will do is cause strife.

Exchange Information

The next thing you need to do is to exchange information with the other drivers. The things that you should collect are their names, addresses, drivers license information, and insurance information. This is why we discussed how to take a good photo. You should take photos of their identification information and insurance cards. For more information about how to get a good insurance photo check out this post here.

Document the Accident

The next step in the process is to make sure that you document the accident. You need to make sure you collect the information that matters to the insurance company so that when you file your insurance claim you have all of your information.

Officer Information

The first thing you need is the police officer’s name and badge identification numbers.

Pictures

The next thing that you need are pictures. The more pictures that you gather the better. You need to get as many pictures as possible from as many angles as possible. That includes up close and far away shots of all the damages so that you can get all the details and perspective of the scene. The next thing you need to do is get any surrounding damages. Mailboxes, street signs or any other type of property that may have been damaged in the midst of the Collision.

Name and Identification Information of Drivers

Also make sure that you get the names and identification information of all the participants including passengers. We discussed this briefly in the previous section but you need to make sure that you get all of the information that you could potentially need from an individual while at the scene. Did you get their phone number? That’s great, but make sure that you get all the information up front because they may not be able to be reached later.

Witness Information

You also need to make sure that if there were any witnesses to the crash that you get their identification information too. You may need to be able to contact them later.
