How does it start?

We start off by scheduling a comprehensive multi point inspection of your motorcycle.  This inspection doesn’t take a long time but allows us to get up close and personal with your vehicle and allows us to push past the apparent issues and identify other underlying issues that might affect the integrity of your vehicle in the future.

This is an essential part of the process that can’t be skipped.  A picture might be worth 1,000 words, but in this case nothing replaces being able to physically see the vehicle.

This step is where we will give you an estimate of what the damages will cost and walk you through the whole process from start to finish.  If you have any questions, we will answer them for you and make sure you feel comfortable before proceeding on to the next step.

Insurance Claim Assistance

The next step is important because there are two roads you can travel down and neither one is right for everyone.  On the one hand you can file an insurance claim, but oftentimes when talking about motorcycle collision repairs, insurance companies will total the vehicle.

“Total” the Vehicle?

The term “total” refers to when the price of the repairs is greater than or equal to 75% of the worth of the vehicle.  It’s basically when insurance companies say your vehicle is a total loss and isn’t worth replacing.

How do they determine what my vehicle is worth?

The term you’re looking for is  “actual cash value” or “ACV” for short.  This is the amount of money that they deem your vehicle is worth today if someone bought another one. It’s base upon a pretty “simple” (as far as insurance math is concerned) formula. If boiled down, the biggest thing to consider is the fair market value of your vehicle.

The problem with totalling your bike

Here’s the problem. Insurance companies will look at the NADA guide to determine what your bike is worth. They look at the fair market value of your bike and compare it to others in the geographic area to determine what they’re selling for, BUT they don’t necessarily take into account the aftermarket parts.

The formula isn’t WHAT YOU PAID + WHAT YOU PURCHASED = PRICE.  It’s WHAT IS AROUND HERE AND SIMILAR? Meaning that you don’t always get the best deal.  What that means for you is that sometimes it isn’t financially smart to take the insurance money and run.  It may be better to simply fix your existing bike.

Can you even find a bike like yours?

Though they factored all these things into the total price of your car or motorcycle. That’s not a guarantee that you can actually find that vehicle for sale for that price.  Which means there’s no guarantee that you’re going to be able to buy another one.

When it comes to cars this is less of a big deal, but what about your motorcycle?  Many times it’s more financially reasonable to go outside of the insurance claim to simply repair the bike out of pocket.

Going “Out of Pocket”

This is another term commonly used in the insurance world to talk about the amount of money you have to spend on your motorcycle collision repairs yourself.  Sometimes it’s worth just spending your own money to fix the bike you already have. This is called going out of pocket and it has a benefit. Because you are going outside of your insurance claim to fix your vehicle, there’s a reduced risk of your insurance premium going up because you filed a claim.
