So you were just in a car wreck and need some motorcycle collision repairs. The first thought is probably not “What happens to my insurance payment?”  In fact, it’s probably not even your third or fourth thought, but eventually when the dust settles the question remains, “What happens to my insurance payment?”

What about my insurance?

Today, we want to answer that question.  The truth is that your insurance could go up, but it could also stay the same.  It all depends upon the situation and how you handle the aftermath.

What’s the best course of action after a collision?

So what is the best course of action after a collision?  Well that really depends on the answer to the following questions.

  • Whose fault was the collision?
  • How much damage did it cause?
  • Are you injured?

The answer to these questions will determine if filing an insurance claim is worth it or not.  There is a risk when you file a claim that your insurance company will deem you to be a risky driver and increase your premium.  This happens regardless of previous driving experience if their re-evaluation of your driving record brings to light that you are a riskier driver than before. These are factors that play into your insurance premiums.

At the same time your insurance claim might be worthwhile if you cannot afford to pay the money out of pocket.  This is especially true for collisions that involve injury or serious property damage.  These are situations in which it would be best to go ahead and file the insurance claim.

Factors that will increase my Insurance Premiums

There is always a danger that after you get in a car accident your insurance company will increase your premiums (the amount you pay monthly to have insurance). The following section outlines a few factors that may (or may not) affect your insurance claim.  These factors may combine to either cause an insurance adjuster to leave your premiums alone or raise them.

Factor #1: The Intensity of the Car Accident

The first factor that goes into any premium adjustment calculation is how intense the car accident was.  If your car accident is super intense and causes a lot of damage to vehicles and property (aka costs a lot of money to fix), you are more likely to have your insurance premiums raise.

Factor #2:  Your Driving History

The next factor that goes into whether or not your insurance premiums are going to get higher is your driving history.  If this is your first car accident – ever – and you’ve been driving a long time, then you’re less likely to see any increase. The insurance company looks at your probability to get in a car accident again.  That’s basically what determines your monthly payment price.  One thing they do then is look at the frequency and distribution of car accident history.  That means they’re going to look at your recent history and if they see you have two or three car accidents in the past 2 years or so, then they’re going to reason you’re likely to get in another.

Factor #3: Fault

The final thing they will factor into their decision is who is at fault.  If you’re the one that’s at fault for the car accident, then you’re more likely to see your insurance premiums get higher. Conversely if you aren’t at fault you aren’t guaranteed to see your insurance payments remain the same, but it’s less likely to increase.

What about motorcycle Collision Repairs?

The insurance process and everything relating to the aftermath of a car crash is basically the same with one specific distinction.  American Auto Body and Collision can work with you depending on your specific situation.  Depending on the extent of the damage and what it will take to repair or replace the parts, you might be able to go outside of the insurance company to repair your bike.

We know that your motorcycle is important to you.  It’s something that you wouldn’t let your family or friends work on so why us?  We have experience working with motorcycle collision repairs here in Tulsa.  We are one of the few auto body and collision repair shops which offer this service at such a high level of quality, but don’t just take our word for it.  Click the link below to view our testimonials where real people experienced real change

When can we get started?

So you might be saying to yourself, “Great!  I have a bike that I scratched up or wrecked. When can you get it in and out?” That’s a valid question because we – like you – wouldn’t want to wait 12 months to see your bike again.  That’s why we put a priority on not only doing a good quality job, but also returning your bike to you in a timely manner.

So the question still stands, “How long will it take?”  Our motorcycle collision repairs take an average of 2 weeks to complete.  We say average because depending on the time it takes to order parts this could be slightly shorter or longer.
