American Auto Body and Collision is a specialized Tulsa based car repair shop.  We specialize in providing quality services at an affordable price and in short order.  Our goal is to get you in and out of the shop as quickly as possible.  No one wants to wait 2 months for a simple fender bender repair, but that is exactly what you end up doing with some larger collision repair shops.  The primary benefit of our service is that we can offer it quicker than the competition.

We here at American Auto Body and Collision realize that it is important to have transportation.  In today’s fast paced world, it is very important to have a means of transportation that can get you from point A to point B fast.  In this article, we will look at the similarities and differences between an Uber and Lyft ride.  For those not familiar with Uber or Lyft, these companies provide car transportation much like a taxi.  The key difference is that they use people like you or I to freelance and lend their car and drive you where you need to go.  Think about AirBNB but for car transportation.

If at any time you have questions about the article or need to schedule an appointment to get your car looked at, don’t hesitate to call us at 539-367-3564.  Email us at info@americanabac.com for any questions you may have.  As always, you can check out other articles that we have written here or here.

Why Do You Care?

You may be asking yourself, “Why do I care which is better?”  That is a great question!  Whenever you get in a car accident, you need some form of transportation: bus, taxi, family member, or Uber.  The point is that you have to get around somehow.  In this article we compare to common ways to get around and see which is better and why?

Uber: The First

In a battle between Uber and Lyft, the first thing to look at is recognition.  Uber has been around for longer.  It was the first of its kind.  To some people, that in and of itself might sway them to say they are better.  When they came out with their service in 2009, most investors thought that they were crazy and that it wouldn’t work.

How Does it Work?

Uber works by connecting people who want to earn a little extra money with people who need a cheap and quick way to get around.  They make their money by connecting these people together and then taking a portion of the profits between them.  When you call an Uber, you are asking your neighbor to give you a ride to the grocery store.  You pay through Uber so that it is safe.  Uber vets the drivers so you feel safe when you step into their car.

Lyft: The Second

Lyft began offering rides in 2012.  They, like Uber, have an iOS and Android app that you can use to enter your desired destination and choose the ride that you want to pay for.  Like Uber they offer a subscription for those who often use their service (places like NYC or DC).  Their subscription is slightly cheaper than that of Uber’s, but other than that it is the same.

The Benefits

The benefits of either of these companies are that you can get a cheap ride to any location.  Uber and Lyft make it easy to call a ride.  The apps can be installed on your phone and take a few minutes to get familiar with.  It doesn’t take long to get the hang of the app because it is very similar to other things you are used to as a consumer.

The Dangers

Of course with either of these services there are a few dangers to be aware of. When you call an Uber, make sure that you get in the right person’s car.  Uber has had allegations – especially with female drivers – of sexual assault and even murder. Because of this, the company has added a large amount of new safety features.  Lyft is no different. They too have received multiple reports of safety violations.

Depending on the situation and your comfort level, take that into consideration when calling an Uber or a Lyft Ride.

When to Use

Uber really shines if you are outside of the United States.  They have a network of drivers that expands past just North America.  Lyft doesn’t spread as far.  That is the primary benefit and strength of Uber over Lyft.  Lyft, however, really shines when it comes to frequent use.  If you are looking for a ride service that you can use regularly, their subscription plan is cheaper and easier to use than Uber’s.
